That's right, 1,881 years ago, one of Rome's most fabulously flamboyant boy toy emperors dies.

(oy, that hair... Though he did bring the beard back)

Even though the man spent almost all his time as Augustus out of Rome and in the provincials the vacationing didn't stop him from building and rebuilding some astounding temples and structures. As well he encouraged and paid handsomely for a fierce fighting military machine.

Little known fact: He was the first & charter member of "Hair Club for Men". He was forever chided for looking like he's wearing a wig (though no one would say it to his face). :D:smuggrin::eek::joyful::dead:

Lol. That thread subject really gave me a chuckle. Incidentally, guess what age Marcus Aurelius (who, according to Historia Augusta, grew up "in Hadrian's lap") was when Hadrian died. Yep, 17. :D

My poor Hadrian as is green with envy. (I just hope it is genuine. Got it on eBay back in 2004.) IMG_7520.JPG IMG_7523.JPG

And also a worn denarius, also bought on eBay, so I hope it is genuine.

Thanks. I always wonder a little on eBay. I once thought I would be able to tell a fake, but then I started seeing all the treads on CT that show fakes I could never have caught.
