you didnt need to gamble that was 5k there right in front of you free of cost and risk :( you should have told the teller to keep these on the side and you would give a $100 tip the next day and collect them

    Heh sorry Rickie.
That's the nature of dry humor though... (and its even worse on the internet!)

I was hoping the "yeah, I know how you think" would offset the other part - because I obviously don't know how you think :)

Wouldn't it be more fun to tease you guys slowly over the course of months? ;)

I'm in the process of building a website gallery. That way you can see the full size .tiff files. (The scanner may be useless for the coins, but it sure does a nice job with bank notes.)

As soon as it's up, I'll post a link.

BTW, I just snagged a dream note (for me anyway) at the latest Herritage Auction. As soon as all the Ts and Is are attended to, I'll put that up too.

Don't tell the secret service about this one, it's illegal to own.

    =========

In all honesty, RickieB has a collection that everyone here would be jealous of. I think he presents it in a rather sensible way without rubbing it in anyone's face.

    Keep those pics coming.

is that note real gatzdon? and :D is it yours? lol

Excuse my ignorance on this next question, but assuming it is real, why is it illegal? all other notes once backed by gold are now legal to own...

now assuming its not real .. why would it be illegal to own? is it because it is the same size, color and everything else as the real thing... yet not denoted a copy?

Sorry :p i have only ever seen these notes in black and white lol

First, I could never afford such a thing, I stole the pics off the internet.

Second, even if the image is not a scan of a real note, it does appear to be an accurate image. I'm guessing it was a scan as it has a random serial number.

Third, it never was legal for you or me to own this note. I'll give you a hint, look at the series date.

Um could it possibly have anything to do with a fire on December 12, 1935, in washington and certain items getting thrown out of a window in box's LOL

i saw the date, but all notes that were once considered illegal because of the gold illagalization thingy, are now legal to own. Also, i know the note was issued exclusively for the use of the treasury and the fed. reserve .. and never released to the smaller banks or the public .... but still cant see why the note would be illegal to own.

there was this fire you see and a number of boxes were thrown out of a window containing the said note LOL unfortunatly they were cancelled I believe so rather worthless but quite a few were shall we say unacounted for and are therfore classed as stolen property  I dont think the goverment make much of a issue about them though

Ps the fire was at U.S. Treasury in Washington, D.C LOL

I thought those were the $1000 gold certificates that were tossed out the window.

The note I pictured was a $100,000 gold certificate issued after the ban on private ownership of gold for the sole purpose of facilitating interbank transfers, hence the "payable to bearer on demand as authorized by law". I believe the same rules applied to all Gold Certificates of Series 1934.

    Found it.

The fire involved Series 1900 $10,000 Gold Certificates. Now there is a note that has appreciated from a value of $0 in 1935 to $8000 73 years later. How do you calculate the ROI on that?
