What Are Your Favorite State Quarters?

I have several favorites and I am curious what fellow collectors feel are the best designs so far. Please give input. Which coins don't you like, too? There are several designs that I feel are not attractive or don't represent a state. I know each state selected its own designs and submitted it to be engraved by the US Mint. While the Mint can't be blamed for a design, they often alter the design before going into production.

    Rhode Island and Connecticut.

With regard to California, I always think of the Pacific Ocean, and the Golden Gate Bridge, so I wish something along those lines had been included on the coin.

See the similar thread from last year --

CT and KS have beautiful, uncluttered themes, along with TN, MI, OR and possibly TX.

AL, MN, OH, IN and FL are low on compelling concepts. NH takes the cake with on old piece of rock someone thought looked like a face, and were lucky to get it on a coin before it falls apart.

It's good to see that there are others on this forum as brilliant as I am.

The Connecticut easily takes the cake for me. The Charter Oak design looks awesome on a coin, and it actually has something to do with the history of the state. This was the original intent of the series, to teach the people about the history of the several states. I also seem to remember that the design wasn't chosen by committee (which has been the downfall of many promising designs).

After receiving the California quarter, holdind and viewing from all angles, I can say for sure this coin would NOT be on of my favorites.
Way too cluttered up and the overall theme doesn't seem to fit, untill you realize that there are a lot of "tree huggers " living in California. I could say the design selected serves them right.

I like the first 50 the best.

    OK, OK...

Maryland, New Jersey, and Virginia. These are all very classic and classy looking to my eye.

I think many of the quarters are ugly and waaaaay too contemporary - they look like hokey commemoratives instead of serious coinage. Just my extreme opinion.

My favorite to this point would be MASS. as it actually says something about statehood. The Minute Man standing ready with his rifle in his hand. I think the BEST is yet to come with Kansas being very high on my list and, if it is not changed, the Nevada quarter holds the potential for being one of the most beautiful designs ever struck here in the states (reverse only) and North Dakota's two bison image is another real beauty. Guess we will see soon!

I, too like the Connecticut quarter. It's design fills the entire canvas (unlike the Florida quarter). It's simple and beautiful. That's what I like about the upcoming Kansas quarter. Not a lot of text, but just a simple Bison and sunflowers. Perfect!

I think the Florida quarter would have been better by using the same theme, but making the pictures larger or superimposing one over the other. It looks too much like a "rush job" to me.

    Favorite Quarters

I adore the Rhode Island ( I love bridges and sailboats), the Vermont with the Maple Tree, NJ has wonderful detail of "Washington Crossing the Delaware River), Connecticut has the historical "Charter Oak" with great detail. I also love coins with maps like NY, TX, and the Massachussetts with the Minuteman is great. I was disappointed with the engraving of Lincoln on Illinois and the engraving on the Missouri; although the designs are attractive. The saddest coins are "The Old Man of the Mountain" which collapsed shortly after and New York; as it reminds collectors of what happened in 2001 in New York but the Statue of Liberty is great. The engraving has deteriorated on the newer issues for some technical issue which I can't understand. I am not too happy with the Delaware or the the Maryland issues. I am most disappointed in Florida; all the original detail was made too small and undetailed! I was hoping that California would include the Golden Gate Bridge, a Spanish Mission, a miner panning for gold, but it's not to be!

I think everyone should be aware of the fact that most of us from coin world are waiting to see what appears on the horizon of the Kansas coin, and not to see another buffalo. I have been lead to believe it will be spectacular.

I appreciate the simple designs, most are to busy IMO. I like the uncluttered themes, Delaware, Maryland & Texas.

The quarter is out, at least as part of the clad quarters proof set. The reverse shows nothing on the horizon, only the foreground buffalo and some sunflowers (aside from the required elements common to all the quarters) and is striking, especially in cameo against polished surfaces. Correct use of blank space to emphasize subject.

Thought: If I want to know a state's shape, I can look on a map.

I am just astounded that, with the angle they chose, I am hidden behind that buffalo on the Kansas quarter! Old Dan I WAS THERE and can prove it with photos as well as a great buffalo steak! Kind of disappointing as I wasn't the first to take a buffalo in 2005!!! I managed to be second by one hour! In any event I will have to examine, very closely, the first Kansas quarter to see if there is a speck, some where on the horizon, which could actually be me stalking (crawling)that outstanding beast! I am certain it IS there!!!

Hey Terry - I think they edited your image on the quarter because you were only dressed in a loincloth :D

LOIN CLOTH? What about the two feathers in my hair and those great knee high moccasins? I could have pulled this off the first day on the prairie, as it was unseasonably warm, but after that I had to go to the 1850's cowboy reproduction clothing, which I might add, would have made Wyatt Earp PROUD, and try to keep my body warm with everything I took with me! Thought for a while I would have to sleep with my horse!!! Sorry, due to a new printer, scanner, and copier, that won't work with my older computer you will have to wait on a photo until Uncle Sam sends that tax refund for a new computer. (doing my part to stimulate the economy) If you can't wait I guess GDJMSP will have to email his address so I can send him a photo to down load! None the less my rookie days are over and I am now a seasoned veteran making plans for a return in 2006! And, I still believe there is a speck somewhere on that Kansas quarter that is definitely ME!!!
