Long ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, and tasted just like chicken.....which explains why they are extinct. I used to coin roll hunt in the 60's and you could find Indian heads in cent rolls. Wheats were common and not worth anything. You could find buffalo and even Liberty nickels in rolls. I also bought a bag of 5000 wheat cents, $50 for only $75, with free shipping. Which dates me, I know. They go for about $250 or more now. I still have it in a very dirty canvas bank money bag. I am afraid to wash it and lose the printing on it. If I had only had money then!
It’s more from experience. Never found any wheat in my CRH, but great to know it’s possible after reading this post. Will do more CRH this weekend!
I usually find about 8/10 wheats per box of pennies. Oldest I have found is 1910. Still looking for 1st indian head, and the 1909.
I found a 1810 Large Cent in a bag of halves I searched. Also in a dealers' grab bag of random "bus system change" I found a 1795 half cent.
We've been searching rolls for decades and that's our odds on cents, too. It's inevitable. Meow just ain't searched long enough.
oldest one I have found is 1910. gone through about $900.00, and still looking to find a Indian head.
Same for me 1909 VDB and it's a nice one. I found almost a full roll of IHC in a CRW from a gas station.
Ive never bought a coin from a shop so all my coins are from rolls or change for the most part. I found this one thats an 1881....might have to just take my word for it lol. I'd say it was a parking lot coin but Im not sure there were parking lots in 1881 hahaha! The other is just a nice one thats in my "old" collection.
