Disclaimer. Not an error guy. Is this a lamination? Mon Jul 08 15-02-37.jpg Mon Jul 08 15-05-36.jpg

Looks like a lamination to me. A scratch would not be peeling up.

it's possible, i'll just shut up because my eye's are tired and brain is shutting down from lack of sleep. Either way the coin from what I can see is nice looking for being 136 years old. OP post your entire coin I'd like to see it.

    Lamination Crack
(Not to be confused with a Die Crack)

Lamination/planchet defect. I don't see any indication of displaced metal that would normally be seen with a heavy scratch

If Fred says it's lamination, you can take that to the bank. ;)

I appreciate all the responses. Its been stored in a PVC holder for years, has some green blobs growing on it and what appears to be perhaps roller wheel damage as most of the stars are smushed. I shall call her scar-woman, you should see the other girl
