I Have a 2 oz Australian Lunar Dragon that is missing most of the Ridges on the edge. Do I have an Error Coin or a forgery?
Howdy JDB520 - Welcome to the Forum !! It's kind of hard to say without seeing the coin as there could be several reasons for what you describe. Can you post a pic ?
Pictures Here are pictures of the top and edge. It is kind of hard to make it out because of the lighting, but the edge is mostly smooth with about 3/8" band of ridges evenly spaced 4 times around the perimeter of the coin. I bought some other coins on the same day from the same store, and all of them have ridges around the entire perimeter. Thanks for your time and help!
Well it appears to be genuine, but you can't say for sure based on pictures. There does seem to be a bit of a bump in the rim at about 1 o'clock. But that could the result of an error that kind of goes with the reeding being missing as the result of a partial collar strike - or it could indicate a counterfeit. Can you weigh the coin ? Preferably to within 1/100th of a gram ?
