Yep! South Africa definitely counts. As @coin_nut mentioned, that one is a halfpenny, not half-dollar. In British territories, before the adoption of decimal coinage, "D" (or more often, the lowercase "d") was the abbreviation for "penny". Why such a seemingly weird abbreviation? It goes way, way back to medieval times. Denarium was the Latin word for "penny".
