Today July 6th is international kissing day ! For the romans, kissing was an important thing. The osculum was a kiss on the hand or cheek. On the lips with mouth closed and exclusively for family members, it was a basium. And the last type but not the least, the passionate kiss was called a suavium. ( Also do not forget that my ancestors invented the famous french kiss...)

This is my only coin depicting a kiss :
    Hadrian drachm
    Alexandria 130-131 AD
    Alexandria kissing Hadrian’s hand

Please post your coins related to this special day.

P.S. You coins collectors friends, I all kiss you ! (Osculum)

I have no kissing coins, but maybe Caracalla and Plautilla kissed at their wedding?

Anyway, happy "Kissing Day." What will they think of next?

I can’t find one. But this one is a classical :
Nero and her mother Agrippina ready to kiss ?? (From acsearch)
    BD688968-8E0F-4E14-A0D4-771D23DB7224.jpeg
It has been said that Nero was ridiculed for appearing to be kissing his mother on this coin. It is also said that he recalled this issue in embarrassment after the comments were brought to his attention. Rumours were rampant of Agrippina’s seductive hold over her teenage son...

Hail to Vindex for starting the Revolt and getting this mess stopped! A descendant of Celtic Nobility from Gaul, NAMED Gaius Julius Vindex, starts the War to END the Julio-Claudian Dynasty that was FOUNDED on the destruction of Gaul. Love the irony...

There used to be a Kissenger of death. Is he still around, these days ? But I don't think numismatics was his scene.
