Hello, I have a 1956 D wheat penny. Wondering if I should get it graded or if it wouldn't be worth it. Thank you
Thank you so much for replying. I appreciate your help. I am new to this and really appreciate the advice I have been getting from this forum.
Agreed. It's an attractive coin, but a very common one, and unlikely to grade higher than MS63 RD, in my opinion. Which would make it a roughly $5-ish coin. So not worth spending $30+ to get graded.
Welcome and a word of advice, only hold your coins by the edge. You are going to ruin that coin with the oils on your hand.
The quantity minted will also help determine if a coin is worth grading. The Red Book shows 1,098,201,100 minted.
I can see what your thinking BUT. Look At the scratches. The blob at noon on obverse below rim. On reverse. Beat up O on one. Scrape on N in cent. Plus a weak strike on obverse. All of these things or just one of them. Takes it right out of grading. Even a 2019 in circulation (bearly touched will have a hard time). Its got to be perfect like a newborn baby butt. Very nice coin. Only maybe AU. fitty cents
To be worth more than the cost of grading a 1956-D Lincoln cent would need to grade higher than MS66 RD. Like mentioned earlier in this post yours would likely grade no higher than MS63 RD considering all of the nicks and scratches on it.
@Aspears ...Welcome to Coin Talk. Normally forum members have no clue to a new members expertise, don't know if you have a Red Book, or have been informed of useful websites. So, if you haven't already, buy a Yeoman Red Book as a first move. It contains a treasure trove of information. And, go to: doubleddie.com, lincolncentresource.com and error-ref.com. These sites will help you classify the coins you find, teach you about worthless doubling and educate you on the minting process. And much, much more. Keep in mind CT members can be brutally honest, but if you are here to learn, you've come to the right place. Again, welcome...Spark
