Error or damaged 1943 mercury dime?

Could someone with the necessary knowledge ( because I sure don't have it yet) please tell me if this looks like a striking error or was it damaged later? The back is the only area affected. The outside " rim" with the little evenly spaced lines has no damage, nor the front, which I found curious. It seems if something happened to heat it up enough to melt the metal, isnt it odd it didnt melt the edge a little? I dont know! . This newbie bows down to the wisdom contained within these forums. Please help!

Just damage, it looks as though it was soldered to something.

 

+1 Yea, they sell low temp silver solder (used to be radio shack) , we had to use it on some rear window defroster repairs.
