Happy 4th!! I find a lot of the listed weak ddo', and have posted them once or twice. But mostly, I just put them aside. However, I find many like these in the process. OF COURSE, the peanut gallery is going to clamor, "no, no, no" but offer no insight or reasoning. These are doubling because: #1 has a clearly doubled "4" ("happy 4th" lol) and some doubling on the "5", as well as doubling in other lettering. #2 has a very fat five with the top of the double protruding, it's not damage. Unlike others here, I know that you cannot have a fully intact "5" AND still have damage. The copper CANNOT INCREASE, although it can appear when hit. This is not the case. ...bring out the peanut gallery! Lol
Um, no to everything you said. Clearly, you know nothing about copper or doubled dies. Now please put down the vaping device and malt liquor and pick up a reputable book about the Minting process. ~Joe
You clearly have no idea about the minting process or doubled dies. I suggest you do what @JCro57 said, and do some studying before you post (again).
I find a lot like this one, looking through a roll of 1940 today but just put them aside for later... http://varietyvista.com/01a LC Doubled Dies Vol 1/1940PDDO002.htm The wheat stalk thickness, and letter thickness, are easy to identify, even with the naked eye. This penny has doubling on the obverse AND reverse. It does occur...
So, I just looked over these photos and can not find any markers. What you have is a worn 1940 cent. Neither the obverse or reverse match what you quoted it to be. Now tell me you show up to a site that has many an experienced numismatist, thinking that you will just blow us away with your knowledge. We understand that, quite a few of you folks show up regularly. We are prepared for the few that decide they know more and a thread goes on, they get corrected. That is what this forum is about. No one here has any bias we treat everyone the same. Some posters just don't get that there is so much more to coins than if it is an error or doubled die. When you look at these coins condition matters. Coins like the ones you posted in this thread are the non sense that is being marketed today. On Etsy even Ebay, not to mention most every App that provides a sales platform on our handheld devices. We all show up every day not to put a hurt on these so called errors or variety's but to help further your education. It seems that you are wearing out your welcome with most of the community, all of us would be happy if you stayed and participated,. But that would mean that you are gonna have to learn something. Back to the coin it is had a good life the devices are no longer sharp. Lincoln doesn't have much detail left. When you look at the dots in EPU the dots are absolutely circular and tiny there is nothing that suggests any kind of rotation when the die was hubbed. Everything you see on the 1940 is flattening and because of damage and circulation. It's understandable and you might think it's cool to have that coin, but it isn't the one you think it is. Please call me out @i2i and show me any kind of die markers that lead you to believe that I am wrong. If you can't please understand that I was only trying to help. P.S. I also came here thinking that I knew more than I did. I found out pretty quick that I didn't know a whole lot. Good luck in which ever side you decide to take. Phil
Please post one coin at a time in a thread. At the very least, only post one coin with close-ups before posting the next. You’re confusing me with the way you are posting them. Please provide more photos of this coin and date (1945 with what you think is a doubled four). The other one is not a DDO, but the jury is out for me on this one.
