Hello. I found a 1978 penny a tad bit smaller than normal size & about double the thickness. It makes the engravings on it look like they’re touching the edge of penny. Photo is attached. I searched online & have found nothing for this size in 1978. Is this an error? Anyone know of a possible value for this?
IMO it's most likely a spooned coin. Here's some photos of spooned coins: https://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Spooned-1960S-70-s-US-Coins-Cool-Items-/263614220887 You can Google "spooned coins" for more on the topic.
is it 2 am yet @paddyman98 @TampaTony1978 first welcome to Cointalk and I must say that 1978 was a great year because thats when the world was introduced to me lol. Although I agree with @thomas mozzillo and believe this coin has been spooned or some other for of damage after the mint it helps to have full pictures of the coin both sides.
yes you did sorry my oversight, I am going to say with certainty that it was done after the mint. I have to go with spooned coin.
