How people take 4 dollar coins (presidential) that are proof (set cost $15) pay $14 a coin to grade ($56) a total of $71 and offer them on ebay for $35? When I email the grading companies NGC/PCGS they claim no one pays less then that? Brian
Not sure about the costs, but I heard one guy say he sends in a thousand coins to be graded. Then hopes for the 70's that will cover the ones that are 69's. So they lose on some coins and make up for it on others.
First, I believe that a large number of coins do get graded for less than $14 each via large/bulk submissions. Second, there is the possibility that the coins you're speaking of graded lower than the submitter expected and that he is going to take a loss. Perhaps others he submitted graded higher and he will make money on them. Some submissions are winners and others are losers - not all coins are sold at profits.
Well I can understand that but in this situation we are dealing with proof 69 dCAM and they are BUY IT NOW for $35 a set of 4 grade coins.
If memory serves me right, bulk modern submissions (100 coins or more) were $7 each (or they might be $5). That cuts you price to $43. Presently on the NGC site, their published rates are $12.50 for moderns (5 coin minimum).
Like said, I think they submit coins hoping for a high grade (like a PR-70 probably). And if they don't make that grade, they just sell them for what they can. Phoenix
I didn't see any bulk pricing on their sites and went by this email from customer service. > Hello Brian, > > Yes the grading is per coin and there is no price breaks on large quantities. That's odd. I've talked to them and was told there's a price break with bulk grading of at least 100 specimens of the exact same coin. PCGS and NGC.
