Can someone advise me how to attribute a variety for this date/mintmark? I've come up empty in the redbook, PCGS site, NGC site, other coin sites I regularly use, and Google. I've found lots of Heritage auction results, but their descriptions provide little detail. Thanks in advance.
I'd prefer not to since the coin may come up for auction at some point after sending into PCGS. At this point, I'm only looking for a resource or specific mintmark descriptions for varieties 1A, 1B, 2C, and 3D.
? What does it matter if the photos are posted. This won't hinder any future sales unless it is fake. There are many here that can help you make a good decision as to sell it raw or if the coin is worth the fees to sell in a slab. The MM position is a 3-D This is supposed to be the rarest of the four. Please post a photo of the obverse. The listing below says that States is strike doubled. Strike doubling happens in the striking process (MD), it is not doubling on the die. https://coins.ha.com/itm/a/1253-16771.s Your coin has the same doubling as the one sold above and if it is infact (MD) then I would be very leery as most MD is never the same. If the doubling was part of the DIE then it would be the same on every coin depending on die state. Good luck. I hope you can get us better photos of both the obverse and reverse. We would like to help.
I see nothing that looks fake but I do think it’s got a very good chance of being ex jewelry. High vf I’d call it 35 would be my grade
Okay, thanks. The blemish (appeared to be wax-like substance) was easily removed with water. I don't think it was ex-jewelry, but thank you for your opinions and help. Cheers.
