I can understand a medal for Sadat for his role trying to bring peace to the middle east, but a gold medal to Gleason for being a good football player? Just doesn't seem to rise to the same standard.
Why should Egypt issue a US congressional medal? They plan to issue (or have already issued, not sure) coins in four denominations this year, on the occasion of Sadat 100th birthday anniversary: 10, 50 and 100 pounds, in silver and gold ... Christian
Well we did host the Sadat-Begin Middle East Peace Accords when Carter inserted himself into the Peace talks Egypt and Israel were conducting (and in my opinion nearly derailed them.)
As for the Egyptian coins, I still don't know whether they are available at this time. But they were announced in mid-February, see here (English). Quote: "The coins will be issued in gold and silver and will be in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50 and 100 pounds." Christian
