    Clembo,

Congrats on getting the job at the Coin Shop and still being able to work you other job! Just remember, a lot of the folks that come in to sell coins also need additions added to their' homes or some remodeling work. You can do a lot of networking and by doing so, you can generate more business for both of your bosses which equates to more work and money for you.
Heck, the owner of the Coin Shop might even let you advertise for home repairs, additions and remodeling!

    Thanks Frank,

I've know this guy since I was doing the truck stop thing YEARS ago. When I started painting he was after me to do some work at his house. Problem was I was routinely woring 60 hour weeks so painting on my off time was not really what I wanted to do.
Tomorrow is a "get my foot in the door" day as it were. I really doubt he'd mind me picking up side jobs for myself or the other guy I work for.

It's weird actually. I'm going in tomorrow because one of his lady helpers is taking the day off. The ladies there generally concentrate on jewelry as they are NOT coin savy in the least. His main helper is EXTREMELY knowledgeable but not really a people person. Takes a long time to get to know him.
He does all of the auction and web site stuff and much more believe me.

Now when it comes to the selling, if it's anything REMOTELY serious, the owner does it. I've seen it enough. People wait as he's the man. Hey it's his shop.

I figure I'll be greeting customers (I'm good at that) selling a few things perhaps like state quarters and probably sorting and organizing a lot of coins. This is funny as I am Mr. Disorganized at home. Different in a working atmospthere though.

I've actually done a share of this for him before, usually for a "buy me lunch and give me some deals" type thing. One day I sorted HUNDREDS of blue Whitman Lincolns for him by book number and pulled all keys and semis out and put them in 2x2s.
I did some Buffalo and V nickels that day as well and he DID take care of me.
Bought a bunch of coins for 50 cents to a buck apiece including a 19-D Buffalo for a buck. It's in F12 condition.

Even if it's only part time this would be a great fringe benefit. He likes to move stuff and does NOT have time to look at it all. If I can buy at even lower costs so I can turn for a profit I'll do it all day.

Going to be an interesting day tomorrow.

    My first day

    Ok folks,

Did my first day at the shop. It was interesting as I expected it would be.
As I had mentioned in an earlier post the owner handles he big transactions. This keeps him busy.
I actually did make a few sales today. Smaller stuff that was marked and it's been a long time since I've done retail but no problem.

I DID sort a lot of stuff as I figured I would. A guy did come in with a rather large collection to sell. He was actually in 3 times today. An odd assortment.
Started off with a bunch of Jamaican sets. Then several Canadian Olympic sets and then onto U.S.
Most was junk silver but he did pay a fair price for a 32-D Washington quarter.
My job for this was basically organizing the stuff so he could go through it quickly and start giving numbers. I recorded all of that and totalled it up for him.
I didn't get a good look at the quarters but I did the half dollars. Saw a few nice Franklins in the lot.
Will have to see what he might sell them to me for.

The next time the guy came in he had a bunch of proof sets, a few proof ASEs and TEN GSA CC Morgans! Needless to say he bought those.

Third time was more proof sets and a smattering of wheats. Nothing fantactic but he did end up buying the whole collection which I have already begun sorting for him.

We did get a chance to chat, and as I suspected, I will be sorting a lot of coins for him. No problem by me. I get paid to sort coins and can set aside what I may be interested in.
His main helper gets first dibs and that's only fair. I've mentioned before how much respect I have for his "assistant". I will get second look and, of course, better prices than I normally would.
Not that he hasn't given me deals in the past. That's why I have been a customer for so long.

We also chatted about "conflict of interest". Once again no problem. He would not like me buying a bunch of coins to sell to another dealer. Well, to me that's like biting the hand that feeds you.
As for selling on line he knows I do and have for years. This is NOT a problem and that's good.
I have been slowly getting back into it and, now with better connectiions, can get more serious on that end.

Now I need to contact my other boss to see if he has any good work for me Monday and Tuesday as he wants me in the shop if I can make it!
Really glad I know him as well as I do because I won't know until Sunday evening or Monday morning. I told him I would NEVER tell him I'd be there and then not make it. What I DID tell him was that if the other boss doesn't call me I'll just show up. He's good with that.

Now that's a very short wrap up. I could go on for a while (like I haven't?). One funny side note though.

    I stole from him today;)
NOT REALLY but when I got home I found a $20 note in my pocket. Knew I didn't bring it in with me so I'm thinking - "where'd I get this?"
Then it dawned on me. He bought lunch today. A hot dog place about a half a block from there. I was going to walk down and get the food so he gave me a $20. Well, the other guy went instead but I never gave the $20 back!
I reckon I should give it back huh.

Let's see. He offered me a job for being a regular and fairly knowledgeable customer when I wasn't asking. Now I'm at least part time in a job I would love. Yeah, think I'll give it back.:)

It was a great day everyone and glad I could share it!

Clembo - Job from heaven! I can't believe that anyone hasn't asked - is that $20 a star note? Then you know you've got the silver spoon in the mouth.

ENJOY it and run with it with glee!!
