I have read about furniture that was designed with hidden compartments to hide valuables. If such items like coffee tables or night stands could be made also with hidden compartments large enough to store coins do you think collectors would use them?

I'm sure the casual collector or random people will always buy items like that for their keepsakes or coins. Personally I'd just stick with a nice safe.

Wouldnt be a bad thing for a person that likes to keep a fire arm close and hidden, but yet easy to get too. Just a passing thought.

Keep the coins in a fire proof safe and the firearms in the hidden compartment in the furniture to ward off thieves trying to open the safe to steal your coins.

    Perfect!

Nice coins should not only be kept in a fire proof safe as mentioned above, but be stored in an area where the temp and humidity can be controlled. There is too much risk, when storing your coins outside a climate controlled area, that they can be subjected to some weird toning patterns. This happened to a few of my coins. Ever since I have kept them in a climate controlled environment, I have not noticed too many problems. I try to take them out at least once a year to inspect them for problems. Thats the fun part.

keeping a low profile goes a long way to keeping your coins safe.

Whoever thinks that hiding coins in "hidden" compartments in furniture probably never had kids. They'll find it for sure.

I'd rather keep my coins in a safe and keep the safe hidden.

I'd go with a fire-proof safe as well. I have a hidden compartment for other things but I wouldn't keep valuables in there as they would be damaged or destroyed in the event of a fire.

I have several .6 cu ft fireproof lock boxes for my coins. I'm about to purchase a fire-proof safe but I was shocked at the prices.

On another somewhat related topic, I have a P.O. Box that I used for a side business that I closed back in 2005. I was going to get rid of it this summer but now I can see a need for it to keep my contact information protected.

    Best,
    Brian

It might be kind of nice to have a secret little cubbies for when some of the coins are out of the safe being worked with. Use the safe for long term and secret compartment for short term storage.
