Time to Max those credit cards and go on a coin shopping spree....or you can do what I do and set a small budget per month (usually $100-$150), which rolls over into the next month if I don't buy a coin that month), and when the budget is spent I don't look at any dealer websites or auctions until the next month.

That's the only way I've taught myself discipline in this hobby. I know that if I want a $300+ coin that will mean two additional months of no coins, so how bad do I really want that $300 coin?

Has it always worked? Nope. I've had one or two shopping sprees over the last two years where I released some pent-up desire to buy, buy, buy, but usually I'm good about controlling myself these days. Another alternative has been to sell stuff from previous hobbies or coins that I wasn't as excited about anymore in order to fund extra coins that I wanted.

Hello, Deacon Ray. Although I'm not exactly a "Churchy" person, I admire your Coin speciality of Biblical related coins, and also your talented way of organising your collection. If I may say so, it's quite inspiring !!! :cyclops:

  10. Deacon Ray,
I rarely post, but have been reading the forums for at least 6 years. Enjoy all your posts and coins, of course. If you don't mind answering, what denomination to which do you belong. I know several denominations have deacons, Catholic, for example, my own faith. I'm not a Deacon, but I am a Eucharistic Minister and a Lector at my church. I need to learn how to post photos, as I have coins that I'd love to share here and some of my other hobbies that could related to coins, like Religious relics, which are a good accompaniment with coins. A relic of the True Cross, of course, is perfect accompaniment to Judean and Roman coins, of course. Constantine I and his mother, Helena, who discovered the True Cross during his reign. And Byzantine Emperor Heraclius who is said to have recovered the True Cross. I have a bit of soil put into a medal of Pope Paul VI, obtained from under the catacombs under St. Peter's Basilica when St. Peter's tomb and his bones was re-disovered

Howdy, Deacon Ray, glad to see you back here! I hope your new job will leave you with enough spare tome to post new coins here. Also, as someone who is allergic to being preached at, I can add that your post did not seem at all preachy or in violation of the board policies on religious/political talk. You were simply showing us your promotion and new responsibilities, which included pictures of you wearing your vestments in a church. Similarly, if you were in the military, it would be fine to post a picture of yourself wearing your uniform and standing next to a tank, I would not interpret this as meaning that you were trying to convince us to support particular military actions.

Re: BC/AD vs. BCE/CE, I usually use BC/AD just out of habit, but I certainly don't object to BCE/CE. When it comes to transliterating Chinese, however, I will only use pinyin and refuse to have any truck with that Wade-Giles nonsense :stop:.

And just to add numismatic content, here are a couple of Judaean coins from my collection, which represent both of the major coin types issued by Pontius Pilate:

There is nothing nefarious in not allowing discussions involving Religion, Politics, and World events. It is not the result of someone being against such beliefs at all, it is that this Site was set up for coins. It is almost certain that in discussion of certain ancient coins that come up, that those three areas might enter that discussion, and if it is deemed appropriate, it is allowed. But when discussions start to get more intent such as "the True Cross", miracles, saints and beliefs, etc. different followers of different religions will jump in and then problems arise. Peter saw fit that to avoid such on the coin forum , he started and financially supports another forum www.partisanlines.com where such discussions are welcomed and debated sometimes furiously. The only general forums there are ( as you might guess) ~ Religion, Politics, and World events. That is why when something in those areas is even marginal here , they will be removed from here or infractions given, as each member can join there and debate the members of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and their version of the Bible or others. Don't pull an "unfair" as you have the alternate forum possibility. Moderators uphold the rules. Please do not make us out to be anti-religious , or of an opposite political party from yourself, or someone who dislikes the US or patriotism, etc. So even the remarks some are a little upset about have their point and I do think Green ( even if teasing a little) deserves an apology. Thanks, IMO, Jim

Love seeing your collection of Judean coins as always, @Deacon Ray. :) . One suggestion though: I think the single image display format is getting a little stretched with 66 coins! You should consider breaking that down into a few smaller images, maybe limited to ~10-12 coins apiece. As it is, I can't even really zoom in and see all the nice detail on these coins (which are very high quality, IMO -- a lot of Judean coins are barely identifiable blobs of metal).
