To further clarify, many people use different words to describe certain notes The Series 611 $10 has always been called the "Marilyn Monroe" because Of the likeness and glamour of it, also the Series 681 $20 has been known As the "Audie Murphy" people associate names to different things, just Makes it easier..LOL
The BEP produced the designs with guidance from the Army. Len Buckley who designed Series 681 for the BEP gave a presentation a few years ago at the MPCFest. He described a fairly involved process from concept to finish.
Those are, to me, far more beautiful than any ordinary money. I'm assuming that because of their condition and rarity, these notes are in the three to four figure range.
Not sure if you mean hundreds or thousands ? Value is basically based On three things, first and foremost is condition followed closely by rarity and third popularity, most of my MPC,S are (TPG) third party graded By either PCGS or PMG, its is extremely difficult for people to agree on Value of raw notes (ungraded) especially if your using only a picture Almost impossible ! But graded notes can be bought and sold sight Unseen and that,s a huge advantage. To give you an idea on value, i will go over some of the notes in my collection Since you asked, that way it will give you a good idea on approx value. Remember many of my notes are one of a kinds and of the highest grade So they are irreplaceable ! Starting with my number one is this Series 661 $20 PCGS68PPQ This note as a few things going for right off the bat, first its a Rare note in its own right with only 8M printed a low number Secondly it,s the first series to have an actual $20 in it all previous Ones were $10,s and thirdly its the one and only 68PPQ in existence To top it off and this note is worth right around $8,500 i did turn Down an offer of $6,500 not to long ago. I dont want to scare you way with the above figure, Most MPC, Can be had For allot less, raw gem notes would generally be in the $550-$750 Range Depending on centering at first glance. Will go over some more tomorrow, getting late here on the west coast
When you start getting into finest known territory the prices will reflect! I really ought to pay more attention to my MPC collection...threads like this tug at my heartstrings.
Five or six years ago a Series 661 $20 in 66EPQ would cost you $2K-$3K. Now you can buy an example in 66EPQ for just over $1K.
Prices are indicative to availability, less available more expense , most of What i collect are 1 - 10 populations notes, so you can throw the average Cost out the window, not that there,s good deals out there because sometimes People need money and are willing to sell at a loss ! i will post more latter.
I think you misunderstood, its graded populations not the notes themselves The Series 661 $20 ( the one above has a population of only 1 in 68PPQ With none higher) unless you have discovered another that i dont know About....LOL
And here,s another, this is second on my list, with a value of $5,500 originally From the Tom Flynn collection, i have had this one for several years Series 681 $10 in 69PPQ a pure master piece, for sure one of my favorites and it honors The military which is huge plus for me.
They dont all have to be superstars or super expensive for that matter A/U grades offer great quality at an excellent price ! here,s one of my examples, Series 591 $10 in 53EPQ picked this one up some time ago for $675.00 which is a steal ! Uncirculated grades can be 4 or 5 times This price. That PPQ or EPQ is very important in an A/U grade
Condition is always the first thing you consider when buying anything i Can remember seeing on ebay i guy trying to sell Series 681 $20 Replacement notes (Raw) i believe he as asking $700 for each and He had a couple, then he got them graded went VF-20 which dropped The value substantially. Also you cant trust printed populations as many were destroyed Like in this pic.
Well again if you can find another Series 681 $10 in 69PPQ for $977, i will Buy all you have unfortunately you cant, being this the only one, and the $5,500 would be more then a fair price for this note, Its obvious your Not in your element here, so dont try and be an expert on something Your not, Sad but true, i know way more about these then you do
This has nothing to do with being an expert. The MPC market is a very narrow niche within the hobby and you’re always saying that it’s only worth what someone is willing to pay. Inflating the price doesn’t make it worth more. You definitely know more about these than me, but that doesn’t mean I’m unable to research pricing.
It sure does, knowing the value of each individual note and how rare that note Is in the MPC world, is very important, i think whats lost in translation here is not necessarily the note but the grade of the note, the Series 681 $10 note Itself has a delivered population of only 3,200,000 and that,s a very low number To start with, add in the obvious burning parties as the picture above depicts and your numbers drop drastically, 4.5 Million dollars in MPC is a tremendous amount and there were more of the same and that would affect actual on hand Populations. As far as your analogy on value and price, its true and yes i say it all the time "something is worth only what someone else is going to give you for it" You of course would not pay that amount, but many MPC collectors would Jump at the chance to own a one of a kind like this, and if i were to Consider selling it, that would be a realistic point, your auction price is Several years old, so i guess in your mind as per your other post the Price of this one has dropped as well ?......LOL If your talking run of the mill MPC,S there still a great value ! and many Can be had for a good price, but when you again get in to an area of extreme Rarity, the prices will always be high, that simple supply and demand 101 I have over 20 years experience in graded MPC, so a little credit would be Appreciated on knowing what i am talking about , my collection is an obvious Statement to that
