New State Quarters

Did anybody else notice that the newer state quarters have less detail than the earlier issues? The coin designs, which looked lovely when chosen, were severly altered when the coins got minted. For instance, the Florida coin design, which looked so nice when I saw the design on the website looks awful on the coin. It has a tiny palm tree, shuttle and ship. Since it's the "Sunshine State" a blazing sun had plenty of room to be included.I was eager for the Florida issue but now very disappointed. Much of the coin is bare and the engraving is poor. Compare this to the great work shown on the New Jersey coin or other early coin issues. I was anticipating the Statehood Quarters, but have been disappointed lately. The California issue looks better but still not what I was hoping for. It merely depicts the Yosemite Valley and John Muir; hardly representative of the "Golden State".

I agree with you about the Florida quarter. just seemed kind of "crowded". I think the california design is nice...but by no means represents the spirit of california. maybe the golden gate bridge perhaps? something to do with the gold rush? well, old Arnie approved it so nothing we can do now.

If Nevada sticks with the Big Horn Ram it should be a winner. A very nice looking coin now, but we will wait and see what comes out of the mint.
