I am a fairly new collector and have this wheat penny. The “LI” in Liberty are cut off from being capped. Is this valuable? Any input is appreciated
Not an error coin of any kind or type. It's a damaged coin, aka "dryer coin" for 'tapped' edges Everything you see on it occurred well after it was already in circulation. Didn't leave the Mint like that.....sorry.
Hi Kristina and welcome to the forum. Hard to tell from your photos but it appears the rim or edge of your cent is raised. If it is then I would suspect that cent has been spooned. Something I did a great deal of as a youngster. Continual tapping around the edge of the coin raises the rim and decreases the diameter. Tap long enough and drill out the center and you have a ring!
Randy, Thanks so much. I couldn’t find anything online and in under a minute, this forum answered my question!!
