Here's a coin I regretted missing out on at Heritage in January 2016: I underestimated the value a bit and lost out, but I had figured finding a raw 63 (or better) with good eye appeal of this one-year type wouldn't be too much of a problem. That assumption proved to be wrong. I ended up buying several nice examples from European auctions, only to find they had been wiped or had slight circulation wear. Eventually I did find a nice example from a Romanian dealer that graded 63, but the eye appeal isn't quite as good as this example, and I have regretted letting this one go. This coin recently popped up on eBay at a reasonable price, and I snagged it, just to close the loop on this coin; one of only a couple misses that I had regretted. Please share your stories of the one that got away and was later found.
I've missed on two US 1796 dimes. The first was a nice looking VF-35 and just recently an XF-45. Unfortunately I haven't progressed to the "and was recently found" stage -- yet.
I have had a few i missed out on, then was able to find a nicer one for less money. Usually they are misses i regret, or things I think I can easily replace, but can't.
I've had a few like that where I end up finding one later, but very rarely has the same coin popped up and given me a second chance.
I'm glad to see you were able to finally acquire that coin. It sure is a nice one. I'm glad to see , Nice things do happen to GOOD people. Make sure you place it with the rest his "Family". Congrats.!!
