Awesome article. What a dream it would've been to see that entire collection before it was broken up!

 

I have kept the catalogs ( regular sale edition) for dreaming purposes

It was. (I saw it while it was on exhibit at the mint in 1976.)

Yes, I was one of the 1.5 million vistors who saw the collection at the Philadelphia Mint.

I am sorry that the mint did not get their collection back. All the Smithsoian does is keep most of the coins in the vault where few people ever see them. Looking at the old pictures of the display room at the old (third) Philadelphia Mint, it looked like most of the coins could be seen by the public.
