My Aunt sent me these pictures of this 1918 1/2 dollar walking Liberty coin it’s not in great shape. I don’t know what I should tell her about it besides it’s really cool. Can anyone give me their opinion on this specific coin, I know the pictures aren’t all that great.
Well worn and about 10 million minted. Not extremely rare in this condition (I'd give it a G-4), but well worthy of collectibility. Welcome to the forum Jan........
+1..... Nice honest hard working half. Looks like an “S” mintmark about 8 o’clock on the reverse indicating it was struck in San Francisco..... Welcome to CT.
@Janika, welcome to CT! What a nice 101 yr old pocket piece! As green18 mentioned, the San Francisco Mint produced just over 10 million of these. In its current state, it's probably worth around $10-$12, especially to someone who collects "pocket pieces".
Welcome to CT. It's a 101 year old silver half dollar known as a Walking Liberty. At present and in this condition retail would be about $10.00. Be sure to thank your aunt. The date is 1918-S.
It looks to be a 1918-S in Good. The Coin Dealer Newsletter says it's worth $12. It is genuine, and it's made of silver. That puts it well ahead of what they are selling at some of the fleamarkets these days, which come China and contain no silver.
It might have sentimental value -- year of birth, marriage, etc. Definitely a year of historical significance -- World War I (aka "Great War") ended in 1918. And it's over a hundred years old. Nice family keepsake.
