Purchased a mint set from an antique store for about $8. Found this dime in it and believe it is ODV-6 (straight G), with RPM - 04. Also, believe this may also be a Full Torch/Full Band. Hoping someone will confirm all this and help to provide value?
I'm not a variety collector but I can tell you this is not a full torch. Wait for others to chime in.
Appreciate the feedback and want to ask - how can you tell it’s not a full torch? Where should I look on this dime to determine that?
The Roosevelt dime features a torch on its reverse, with bands at the top and bottom. To qualify For a Full Torch (FT) designation, both pairs of these bands must show full separation, and the vertical lines of the torch must be defined. I do not believe your Dime exhibts a full band separation.
Yes, I understand how PCGS/NGC defines the designations, I should have been more clear - where specifically do you believe this dime does not display full band separation?
Both bands are too soft in detail they tend to run together. The lower one is worst than the upper one. You can see both bands but there is no defining separation between them, in my opinion.
Again, thanks for the feedback. By no means am I an expert and I tend to agree with you that there is a bit of “softness” but you can still see both bands. I’ve seen other dimes graded as FT or FB that were similar, though, and feel it would be a gamble to submit for grading without the variety designation. With that, I’d feel better taking the risk if it didn’t be come back as FB/FT.
Not all FT dimes are MS, the vast majority are but there are some that are not. Before sending in I would do a little more research on the FT and the variety. Best wishes.
