Sounds like you have a coin with the last digit in the date missing? This could happen for a number of reasons, including a grease-filled die, or simple circulation damage/wear. There is really no way to tell without seeing it.

This reminded me of the Penny Lady. I can't remember her name right now... What happened to her? She used to post some really good show write ups. I remember seeing her in Baltimore at the Whitman show too. I haven't seen her in a few years now I think.
