I intend to spend all day in Michael Swoveland (@Aethelred's) coin shop, WNC Coins, on Monday, June 24th. The address is: 1987-C Hendersonville Rd. Asheville, NC 28803 The shop phone is: 828-676-3500. I'm not sure, but I think there is a small chance @tibor might visit. Maybe @asheland as well (he is more active on Collectors Universe than here). If any other CT or CU members are in the area, I would welcome a chance to meet you in person. I don't get that opportunity much anymore, since I haven't done any shows in the last decade or so.
That’s awesome. Enjoy the mountains, LordM...... I always had a pipe dream of having a kids coin shack in Maggie Valley when I retired. The sort of place a kid could come in on his family mountain trip and get two dollar IHC’s and the like. My heart lives in the mountains.
I should be there around 1:30. Looking forward to meeting LM and many others. I met Aethelred a couple of years ago. Very knowledgeable and friendly.
I like Asheville but it’s been quite awhile since I been there. I might not as much now. I really would have liked it when a buddy of mine lived there in the early to late 90s. When it was a lot more rough and tumble wish I was closer
Have fun! Henry and I never miss a chance to stop by WNC Coins when we are vacationing in Asheville. @Aethelred has been so kind to us over the years.
Had a wonderful time visiting LM and Aethelred. This was my first time meeting LM.A real nice person who knows his hobby. We covered several topics and I enjoyed the conversation. Aethelred was busy most of the time with customers. He bought 2-3 smaller collections and sold quite a bit of stuff. LM and I enjoyed lunch at a Korean restaurant, a good experience. I hope we can make this an annual event. Nice to share your hobby with like minded collectors. Thanks again LM and Aethelred!!
Unfortunately, I didn't think about that, and this is the only one I took. Michael/@Aethelred is helping a customer here, but not a forum member. I wished I had taken a picture of all the little dishes of artistically prepared food placed in front of @tibor and I in the nearby Stone Bowl Korean Restaurant, where he bought me lunch. But I forgot my phone back in the shop. That was fun. You know I'm pretty absorbed in conversation when I leave my ever-present phone behind! We talked about y'all. He has a letter from Henry with a drawing of a 1949 Irish coin framed and hanging behind the cash register. Thanks again for lunch. And for the proof sets and stuff you donated for the giveaways. Was nice to meet you. It was an enjoyable day.
It's been awhile since my last trip down to Ashville ,back in the 90's when I worked for the Irish dairy board. I do recall a nice evening having dinner, drinks around town with the ending at the golf club....I remember the fire places at the lodge.....huge big enough to roast a whole cow! I had cousins who moved there after they retires from Ford. They love antiques and were excaping a life time of Detroit Mi. Weather. Yeah like Austin the town of Ashville is like the center jewel in a crown.
Aw man...I'm close enough that could have been a decent road trip...if I'd only checked in on the forum and hadn't picked up a couple extra work days (I usually work weekend/day shift and currently am struggling through week day nights...ugh). So, stuck. Someday I'll get a chance to meet you guys in person!
Yes, maybe another Halloween/early November gathering. The fall colors are spectacular that time of year.
There’s quite a few in that area. I’m there a couple times a year and pass through more @Paddy54 is close. So is the banned (unfortunately) Kurt Bellman and others
