I went to my bank yesterday to cash a check and the teller and I started talking about old currency. She told me that she gets old currency in all the time especially from family members whose loved ones have passed away. I asked her if she ever gets currency that has blue or red seals on them and she said, "Oh, yeah. In fact just the other day I had a stack of bills that had red seals". Well, she agreed to save any old currency for me on a weekly basis. The funny thing is, she's the head teller and we've discussed old coins before. She collects any old coins she gets, but didn't seem to care at all about old currency! So we'll see what treasures, if any, await me. She went through a stack of twenties and pulled this one out for me yesterday. It's just a 1963A series $20, but it's not in bad shape. Sure, the value is only twenty bucks, but how often do we see these floating around:
nice note for face. My luck/communication skills leave a lot to be desired. i can never find a teller and have that conversation
congrats on the new contact!! a head teller willing to hold stuff for you ... thats a special type of friend and YES that $20 is cool
I didn't get this one from the bank, but I got it in my change today. I was astonished how crisp it was. Certainly it came from someone's collection; it feels brand new! There are a couple of folds, but otherwise it's just like it rolled off the assembly line. The funny thing is that I remember when these were as common as day-old bread, but now they're getting hard to find... nevertheless, they're still out there folks!! Someone probably pulled it out of their collection to pay for a gallon of gas! :rolling:
I have a teller at one of my banks that saves the higher denomination older currency for me, a week ago I got a call from her that a series 1934 $100 came in, that week I bought over $200 in old currency from her. But I had to sell her $5 in silver certificates at face to get them. She is a collector too. She also orders bricks of $2, and has loyal customers like me that buy them in $100 bands to spend around town.
