My first post! Yay me. Just started collecting again and had a store owner spend some time on this coin which got me thinking. It appears to be the wide LIBERTY 1909 VDB. Any thoughts? Thx
Hi, your photos are not the best for showing the area, but you can compare to this page http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1909&die_id=1909p1do002&die_state=mds and notice that the lettering used as a diagnosis on the webpage are Wider/thicker in the Vertical direction on LIBERT than the Horizontal direction, I don't see that in yours, they appear more equal, and are probably like they are due to wear. I can not see the date well enough to comment. IMO Jim
Excellent. Thank you. I'm working on getting better pics. Any suggestions? Saw some digital scopes that display on the computer or does everyone just use a better camera?
There are some people who swear about USB scopes, half liking them and half cussing because people do not use them properly and within limits so pixilation and blending algorithyms tend to add things that are not there. For others the price is all they can afford and if they stay within reason on magnification , will help for under $50. There are many threads one can find searching for " USB camera" Jim
Hey Jim. I've got some better pics to show you. Also, there is this paragraph from LincolnCentResource that led me to believe width versus height. A second 1909 V.D.B. doubled die obverse exists (FS-012.1), but it exhibits only extra thickness in the letters. http://www.lincolncentresource.com/doubledies/1909VDBddo1.html
