    I have a quick question.

On some of the 1947 Canadian cents there is what looks like a small maple leaf next to the date.

Is it a maple leaf and why is it on some of the 47's? I have not seen it yet on any other dates.
(I guess that was two questions)

    Thanks!

New dies showing India as an independent state (IND IMP was removed) were late in arriving to the Canadian Mint, therefore, in early 1948, pennies were minted with the 1947 dies but were marked with the Maple Leaf to note the fact that these '47s were actually minted in 1948.
