    The coin is actually that color. Kind of slate grey. Never seen a IH tone that way. FYI.

    I’m not sure why the Indian head Experts haven’t jumped in yet. I am not one of them. I do know that a 1908-S is one of the better dates. I can also say that yours appears to be in exceptional shape. The grayish toning is not all that common from what I have seen but then again it’s not entirely uncommon either. Copper can tone different ways depending on the conditions it may be exposed to. Hopefully some of the IHC experts will show up soon. Welcome to the forum.

    Thanks for your response. It is a better date. i thought it might have been cleaned with something in the past or even a fake. Strange toning for sure. I'll look forward for the IHC experts to respond. Enjoy your evening.
