Hi all, Welcome to my 23,000th post celebration! Today I want to share a special foreign (non US) coin collection. A tenant at the building I work at started a special collection of these coins from each employee. Since the office manager knew I was a coin collector she asked me if I wanted to search through them. Here are some of the most interesting I found in the bunch.. Oh.. Why Super Mario?.. Because of the container it is collected in. Click to enlarge and see Mario!
That's a nice pile o coins! I wonder what percentage of a random assembly like that is still currently exchangeable currency.
Congratulations on your 23,000 post! Amazing coins, very cool! I like the Suomen coin with the lion sticking out his tongue. Even Luigi would be jealous !
crappy place to work if you have to donate your coins. lol Just kidding Paddy. Cool looking coins for sure.
Umm, Meow thinks maybe that cat is anorexic. Look how sickly thin he is. His tongue is out from all the intentional vomiting.
Meow has a small pawful of foreign coins from the Coinstar. But they are getting harder to come by lately. At any rate it would take Meow decades of Coinstar use to fill a pot. If Meow wanted to fill a pot of them, Meow would need donations too. And you are so lucky you know other folk who like and collects coins. Meow has yet to meet anyone who does in Catson yet.
Yes, the Finnish lion is always depicted with three weapons. He stands on a saber or scimitar, holds a sword ... but his most dangerous weapons are the tongue and the claws. The lion on today's coins from Finland is still quite skinny: (image link from the ECB website) Christian
Someone should get him to the vet. And oh my, what a long tail. And walking on a sword cant be healthy either.
Maybe that is why, on the Greater Coat of Arms, the Dutch lion is supported by two fellow lions. Those beasts do have quite muscular legs though ... (Side note: The lion, anorexic or not, has not been used on Dutch circulation coins for almost 40 years.) Christian
Well under $50. Byzantine schyphate with silvering showing. As struck. I bought 10 from a large hoard. Fun stuff, many different varieties.
There’s a 1922/1 overdate of this date. I don’t see any indication of the 1 at the last 2 on your coin. That’s what is so interesting about collecting World Coins. I happen to have found one about 6 years ago, but do not have a photo of it. Happy hunting.
