I don't collect paper money actively. But I have the normal stack of $2 bills and some Web Notes. How do you store them? Thanks Tim
I toss them in sleeves and then into my safe with the rest of my stuff. I don't have anything of any great value, like you.
I also place them in Currency sleeves and put them in the safe . The sleeves prevent further wear and the safe has a Desicant to remove moisture .
I have an early fifties silver certificate that looks brand new even today. I got it while collecting from my paper route customers in 1957. I have kept it in my anthology of Yeats poems since the sixties.
I put my currency in a sleeve and then into a currency album. The better ones I send out for certification and then put them in a currency album.
Since it's been a bit vague in this thread, it is best to store the notes vertically, as in a binder, rather than flat. Most banknotes have some sort of embossing, whether from intaglio printing, serial numbers, etc, which is considered a good thing to have. Laying notes flat, with weight on top of them, can flatten this out of a banknote.
Remember you are talking about paper money , not metallic money. You do not want the lower humidity levels you use for coin storage. Most recommend about 50% humidity for paper. Since that is rather high for coins, perhaps a separate safe? Jim
