Let's have some fun with this!!! 1938:----------------->MS65 (Just misses 5FS) 1938-D:-------------->MS65 1938-S:-------------->MS64 1939 Rev of 40:----->MS64 1939-D Rev of 40:-->MS66 (Worthy) 1939-S Rev of 40:-->MS64 1940:---------------->MS63 1940-D:------------->MS66 Details (Counting Machine/Wheel Mark Damage) 1940-S:------------->MS65 1941:---------------->MS64 (Just misses gem and 5FS) 1941-D:------------->MS66 6FS (Worthy-but I probably won't) 1941-S:------------->MS66+ (Worthy-hoping for a homemade MS67) 1942:--------------->MS62 1942-D:------------>MS65 5FS
I agree with both of you that the 41-D is a nice six full step coin, but that is actually a problem. The 41-D is the quintessential type coin for the Jefferson Nickel series. I already have 3 in my E-Bay inventory, including an MS67 6FS, MS67 5FS, and an MS66 5FS. I’m actually thinking this one might sell better raw. What do you guys think of the other pre war coins. Are any of the others submission worthy?
The 39-D reverse of 40 has to be a rare bird. After the 50-D the 39-D is the lowest minted in the series. Reverse of 40 has to be much much lower. Plus it's a mint state coin.
Nickels are difficult to grade. This one has toning which may be hiding something in these photos. At least MS 65. I don't have it in hand but 66 is possible.
66 would be good. I think the combination of the key date, reverse of 40 and high grade makes that one a big winner.
41 D is not 6 full steps, 5 yes, 6 no. Bottom step is slightly questionable onder the third column and definitely joined to the step above below the first column.
