I've never even heard of bar coppers. Thanks for the introduction. Very interesting and (for me) curious.
Ok... Couple of better photos. The grade is AU Details with a tooled reverse. Looking closely I believe many years ago somebody tried to remove grime between the bars with a pocket knife. Also am of the opinion that this is the same coin that @kazuma78 found. I am betting it was cracked and resubmitted in hopes the light scratches on the reverse would be overlooked this time. Either way. I don’t care. I been wanting to own one of these for many years and I am tickled to death with it. I still don’t believe I own this. And quite affordably too!
That's a fantastic coin, and I'd be proud to own it too. The details reason for the coin is not a big deal because it really doesnt detract much from the beauty of the piece. Nice grab!
I was finally able to sit at my computer and view both images side by side. This is absolutely the same coin. According to NGC it was encapsulated in May. No question that the winner of the Heritage auction cracked, resubmitted and was hoping for a straight grade. Fortunately for me, it didn't.
Nothing wrong with a 4 figure increase in market value shared by your and your dealer friend. Congrats! You deserve it.
Very nice addition to your collection . Thanks for sharing . Thanks to the other members with a little bit of history , I find the history of the coins and what was occuring in America or the world at the time of minting fascinating .
Oh don't get me wrong. This traded for a third of the valuation of the piece less the details grade. Only way I could afford to have one!
Killer coin. One I always wanted too. My thought was xf details cleaned. Personally I think you have nothing to lose to crack and try again a couple times especially if it comes back clean
I was never one to play the crack & resubmit odds. Perhaps down the road. For now I am treating the piece like a trophy wife and just staring at it endlessly.
