Sure hope someone else can see what I see on the date of this Lincoln cent. Ideas and opinions about it, please. jeankay
Yes, the mint mark is doubled, with the bottom mm slightly tilted SE. You won't believe what I have done today to try and find this coin again, and all I can find are more pictures. Unfortunately the pics are not much better than this one. I cannot find this coin at any of the variety forums or in any of my reference books. I guess that makes the entire exercise somewhat moot. Sure do hate it when this happens. think I will slink away now... jeankay
If the mint mark is also doubled, think about it no more. I forget what year it was but at some point, the mint stopped hand punching the mint marks and they began placing them on the master dies. I believe that your coin is one of the years where the MM was still hand punched into the working dies. If this is so, then the date and the mint mark would NOT both be doubled unless it was machine doubling.
Unfortunately this is the best picture I could find... and not being able to find the coin so I seem to be at the famous stand-off with myself, again. Having the information that both doubled date and mint mark are highly unlikely on the same coin is a help. I would like to find this coin because it is so odd and interesting. Thanks much for checking it. jeankay
