Here is another of the first group of coins that I acquired. This may be my favorite....It has a great tone that the photo doesn't show. The letters and numbers are fuller strike than it looks like...I couldn't adjust the lightness of the photo very well. Thanks, this is a great group to be part of.

That is a great strike...looks almost proof like.

EDIT: After looking at the photos a bit longer...the reverse looks much better than the obverse, but I am inclined to say it is attributed to a weaker strike perhaps rather than wear/rub. It's difficult to tell from the obv. pic.

Perhaps it's just the imaging and lighting, but the coin looks unnatural to me, as if it has been cleaned. If not, it looks AU58 at a minimum and possibly choice uncirculated.

I believe it is the lighting.....I am going to try for better pictures tomorrow, if I succeed , I'll post them. Thanks for the input. By the way Bonedigger, I am retired and live in Nebraska.

I'm not at all sure from what he said that he thinks it's a Proof. Either way, from the look of the weak stars, among other areas, the strike does not appear to be that of a Proof.

I was basing my opinion on the clear fields. Also look between the stripes in the reverse shield, almost flawless. That coin is HAMMERED as well. One thing is for sure and that's I'll never see it in hand to make a call as to what I'd put on the flip. Like the rest of us all we've got is 2 pictures... :smile

I've used this term many times before to describe exceptional Bust Coinage, but in this case it's a Seated Piece. Hammered to me means an extremely well struck coin with sharp well formed rims and the devices all struck-up.

Yeah, I've seen you use it before - didn't know for sure then either. That's why I asked.

Well, out here near the BadLands with no formal guidance I've virtually created my own language for collecting and the various activities associated with it, LOL :D almost like a Cargo-Cult...

If you ever have a question about the meaning of terms, phrases, or words I use in collecting contexts please feel free to ask because what some may think (these words) they mean is usually all wrong, LOL...

Like Mark, the photos have me scratching my head as to what this coin really looks like. That said, the coin appears to have mint state details to me.

Like GDJMSP, I dispute the use of "hammered" with this coin -- it isn't particularly well struck overall or for the issue. Not a bad strike, but not "hammered" at least the way I understand the common usage of the term (and recognizing that some define it differently). The reverse is well struck, but the obverse stars are clearly weak.

Please share more pics of the coin.
