I am at a technical grade of MS 62, with a 2 point toning boost to MS 64 grade. Beautiful toning. Congrats to you and your wife.
Yeah, for me the numerical grade means very little compared to the eye-appeal. Serious coin porn there.... MS62....
I have over a thousand Morgans. About 4 years ago, I sold off over 200 toners on consignment. When I was collecting toners, grade was ALWAYS secondary to the attractiveness of the toning, and that is the case here. If it were a “blast white” Morgan, I would probably had no interest in the coin. I have two 1883 PLs, so that aspect is true. The OP’s coin could be anywhere from AU-58 to MS 65, and it is still as appealing.
@Morgandude11 @Collecting Nut @johnmilton I absolutely wanted this coin for the color only. You all make very good points, with this vibrancy it's all about the eye appeal/color and not nearly as much about the grade. I posted this more for a fun way to show it off. But it does have a nice range of acceptable grades IMO and I would understand if it received any them. For example, you can see from the true view below the coin looks dull and marks are very apparent (idk what this photographer was doing). But in hand color and luster are so strong you don't notice marks. In the end I'm ecstatic about the coin and I think it was a very reasonable price for how much wow factor I got
Agreed that this is an appealing coin, but I would pass on purchasing it from a market price standpoint at MS 64 or higher. Dan Edited based on True View photos.
I am glad that @LuxUnit's wife gave him this coin and supports his hobby. A lot of wives give their husband's trouble of this hobby. I saw that when I was a dealer. All I'm pointing out here is that the toned coin market can be a dangerous one for you financial health. AT and hidden problems are something you need to keep in mind when you buy this material.
I hope your birthday was a happy one . Since your wife bought that sweet coin does she have a sister? I wouldn't mind opening up a gift like that.
Twin sister even, but she thinks my coins are dumb lol I think I talked her ear off about it and she knew I'd never pull the trigger, I haven't ever spent over $100 on a coin. So this is a new world for me!
Actually my wife is very supportive of my hobby. She is the love of my life and God has blessed me with her.
Ditto, I know this is a cheesy on this platform but I feel the same. I'm glad God gave you another. I take whatever opportunities I can to praise my wife and I like that you do the same!
I believe two got it! @Browns Fan and @Dave Waterstraat I think the technical grade is right on. Currently MS 62 coins, that are graded 62 because of dings rather than wear, are my favorite grade. You get the detail of a 64/65 without the price! Ha thanks again for guessing everyone! I am trying to do a gift but it keeps getting blurry and the color fades. I'll update if I figure it out! Ha
When I saw the true views I new I was high on the grade. Sometimes it is hard to be truely technical when photoing your own coins. I think Phil gets to photo them before they get placed in the slab.
@Pickin and Grinin oh yea, the true view definitely highlights marks on this guy. I completely understand the grade but its just one of those things where you can not see it in hand without the perfection conditions so I wish they would've done it differently. I think this True View was done for more of a seller protection point of view rather than a owner showing off a coin POV.
