Ever since I opened my first Redbook almost fifty years ago, this coin has haunted my dreams. My best dealer buddy found one that I can afford and still holds eye appeal so I just pulled the trigger. It will be late next week before I hold this dream coin in my hands. I am giddy as a kid awaiting Christmas! Welcomed to GTG if you like.
Fantastic coin, Randy! Congratulations on realising your dream and adding this interesting and historical coin/token to your collection.
This coin is known as a bar copper. They have no date and the origin is unknown. It has 13 parallel and unconnected bars on one side to represent the 13 colonies. The other side has a large USA monogram which is identical to that used on The Continental Army uniform button. If I'm not mistaken the bars represent a single unity as symbolized by the interlocking of the USA. It is thought that the first circulation occurred in New York around 1785 late in the year. A fantastic colonial coin!
Randy, what a nice wonderful and fascinating addition to your collection. I completely understand your fascination with it. Congratulations on this addition. Edited to correct spelling.
Neat round metal object (coin?). As for the GTG, my vast experience with this neat round metal object has me at AU-50.
After checking NGC's price and pop guide - wow, there are not many of these neat round metal objects out there!
True.... It has been a long search. The high end graded coins are well into five figures and auction results are all over the place. I feel like I got this one for a song. And it had to be if this regular working Joe was going to own one!
All Right! You got me! What's the grade assigned to that coin? Based on my experience with the coin, it could be an "AU". JMHO
