I hit an old fairground spot that I detect at at least once a year. I seem to always manage a few good finds. The half dime was a surprise. Its in pretty nice shape too. Check out the condition of the merc. The back has all the bands visible. I hit the barber dime with my digger..I hate when I do that. You can see the ding on the front at about the 7-8 o'clock position.
Awesome finds! :hail: Love that "vintage" pull tab too! That should sell well on Ebay. Ribbit :smile Ps: What brand of Metal Detector detects marbles?
Jim, your posts and finds make me second guess leaving Detroit ( for about 5 seconds) . Hey , great stuff !!!
Great finds, :thumb: a little better than the Hamm's beer can I found over the weekend ( at about 6 inches I might add) . I really need to learn how to listen to my detector better.
Wow! Merc and half dime look great. All those years underground and it doesn't appear to be any corrosion. Can still see LIBERTY on the shield. Very nice.
Well I did, when I'm at a site with lots of trash signals I do not dig many nickel/pull tab signals unless they are deep. When at an old home site I dig all repeatable signals.
WOW - Great finds! That half dime and merc are in great shape!!! You really do have a nack for finds the right spots! Congrats!
Nice Finds!! Next weekend I hope to hit up an schoolhouse from the late 1800's. Jim, what is your success at old schoolhouses?
The location had potential as a ghost town that ceased to exist about 55 years ago. unfortunatly the foundations sit in a flood plain so there is a lot of silt and soft ground. (objects sink fast here) I am pretty new at detecting and need to remember that a repeatable signal repeats the size as well as composition. A lot of the scrap I dug was being detected as siver dime then dollar then quarter so on and so on. It was cool finding the ghost town after researching it though.:thumb:
I love old school house sites. More times than not places like that have been hit numerous times by others. My goal at spots like that are to be happy finding one or two old coins and don't expect more. To increase your odds, try and cover every inch of the property be patient and persistant. It pays off. Also to know your detector and what its telling you helps alot. I usually only dig targets that are at least 6 inches down or more. Unless its a new site that I have never been to then I'll dig shallower stuff just to get an idea of the age of items dug. Also try spots others may not have, under bushes, in the out of place spots. I love old school house sites. Jim
Very nice find. Super looking Merc and Seated. I will be acquiring my own metal detector as soon I can afford a decent one. Thanks for sharing. Allen
