I can't wait for this weekend to arrive. Once a month our local coin shop holds an auction and this is that weekend. I have my eye on a very nice 85cc Black Box Morgan. If anyone is interested on what coins are auctioned off you can click on this link http://www.kanawhacoin.com/. Out-of-staters bid all the time and they ship the items on Monday or when payment is received. This is on Saturday, then there is a coin show on Sunday. I am going to have to take Monday off just to recover! :goof: I'm going to be like a little kid in a candy store. I can't wait.

Well Gang - I have nothing specatular to report from my "weekend of bliss". Due to the nature of my job, I was on call this weekend. I kept on getting called out everytime I got somewhere. I was on my way to the auction and got called out, finally made it to the auciton and was there for about 15 minutes when I got called out again. Then on my way to coin show on Saturday I got called out. Finally made it to the coin show around 4, and just my luck - everyone was shutting down. Tried to get back up to the coin show on Sunday and I was called out again. I am currently at work with no hope of getting out anytime soon.

I did grab about 15 1940's and 1950's common date UNC wheats from a friend of mine. He gave me an awesome deal. I also grabbed a 1949 UNC Roosevelt that he had graded MS 67 and definitely looked it. He gave me that for a steal as well. Lastly, I hooked a 1954 Franklin half that was UNC. The guy was grading it a MS 64, but looked about 62. He gave it to me for 62 price. Wasn't a big deal there, but I liked how it looked.

Anyway - I have to wait till the fall for the next coin show, but there is one more coin auction in May. Then they hold off the coin auctions until the fall because they are held in an old building with no air condition. The owner is trying to get it installed by the summer time so he can continue the auctions, but it all depends on price.

85cc Black Box Morgan... Does that mean it's a GSA coin?

Yes - I should have clarified that - it was a GSA Morgan. I never got to see those auctioned off. There were a few early mint sets in original packaging that I was after (55, 56, 57 & 58) and two proof sets in original packaging (54 and 55). The guy next to me kept out bidding me and won all of them. When they handed them to him, he just crumpled them up and put them in his pocket!!!! Guess he didn't care about the original mint packaging and was just interested in the coins. I just wanted to cry. The original packaging was in perfect condition - call me crazy, but I look for that kind of stuff. Tells you what kind of person had the coins before and how they took care of them. Of course they could have put the coins in a shoe box up in the attic for the past 60 years, but you get the point. Whoever had them took really good care of them.

Anyway, I had to leave after that so I missed all the Morgans.

Don't you hate it when work gets in the way of fun! :computer:

Maybe you'll have better luck next time but it still sounds like you came away a winner anyways!

    Ribbit :)

Ps: Get someone to cover for you next auction. ;)
