I was going through some boxes from the house move on Jan 15 and ran across this stuff. The only bad thing is that they are all glued to these pages. Also found this coin too.....The top notes has AWESOME color and all the corners are sharp!
nice! too bad about the glue! maybe there would be a way to remove the notes from the paper... might damage the otes a bit, but its better then leaving them on the paper. Maybe if the paper was soaked .. like, lightly damp the back with a wet sponge... the wetness might disolve the glue with minimal damage tothe notes.
It would be worth seeing if you can soak them off, banknotes are quite strong, I would sugest trying the worst one first in very hot water, the same way that one flotes stamps off paper
exactly what i was thinking, but i wouldnt 'soak' them as i wouldnt want the paper to obsorb the glue ... i would think just a wet sponge on the back of the brown paper, just enough to wet the paper and let the glue disolve. if all else fails, i would soak it uder a very hot faucet bath
First (and foremost), goto the library, get the catalog of world bank notes (or similar book) and find out the relative value of each note. You wouldn't want to experiment on the most valuable note first. Don't forget to take into account sentimental value too.
Soak them in acetone. I had a similar problem with notes glued by their edges, and the acetone did nothing to the notes but loosened the glue.
Good Suggestion Very cool notes. I would suggest what Bogie has suggested. Steam should soften the glue and allow you to separate the two papers. BE CAREFUL!!!, once you have separated the notes from the paper, allow them to dry before you try any other techniques for removing the glue. The notes will be very weak and will want to tear. Thanks for sharing!!! Allen
I have a Brasil 20 that has the signature across the front too, is that common with all their notes? I will post pics later. I also have some of your same L'Afrique Occidentales notes as you posted. Nice notes.
If you have any hope of preserving some value for the collection, you should have it professionally conserved. Everything you do and everything you try has a high probability of failure.
nice notes :thumb: i dont get caught up so much in the condition of a note myself... i like having an example, and if someday i upgrade fine, but if i dont, thats fine too! those notes are perfect just the way they are
I have had these notes about as long as I started collecting coins. That was in the mid 70's. I received most of these world notes from my grandfather. He had picked them up on his travels. I am not a avid bill collector but I definitely will keep any I come in contact with.
