What do y'all think of my new $6700 "Business Strike" (cough cough) Washington?

Got it in-hand today, purchased from a collector. Something awful funny looking about this coin. Liquid surfaces. Squared off rims. $6700 retail.... or 25 bucks? He's having me return it for a refund. Not sure what will happen to it, but I wanted to ensure you guys and gals knew there's a tainted coin out there.

"having me return it"...do you have any choice? Where did you get your prices?

That's a nice looking quarter. I'm a bit confused as to what the problem is.

    It's a proof, not a business strike.

$6700 is retail for an MS68. $25 is about what a PR68 is worth.

I just hope I get my money back. I called NGC. They said they hold no responsibility as to financial compensation for this mistake and my only recourse was to go back to the seller. That kind of surprises me... So basically if the seller decided not to refund me I'd be out of luck.

I’ll keep this case in mind when dealing with NGC grades. My dog would have figured that coin as a proof. Wonder how many people have been stung.

It is a mechanical error, NGC is going to re-slab the coin with a PF68 label. It is unfortunate, but it happens. Personally, I think they should bear the brunt of the costs related to these mistakes. If they took the financial hit, perhaps it would incentivize them to tighten up their quality control standards so that things like this don't happen in the first place.

No need to start a gang war yet. The guy I bought it from says he will refund me. Also, I used my credit card thru PayPal, so I have their protection as well as a chargeback option. But I think he'll do the right thing, based on my chats with him today. As to whether he'll try to sell to someone else?... that may be. Which is why I'll be asking @Jack D. Young to use his contacts to kill the cert number. But I'd prefer Jack do that AFTER I get my money back, for obvious reasons.

All I had to go on was the NGC low resolution pics when I made the purchase. As soon as I opened the package I knew it was a common grade proof.
