Anonymous Uncia 19mm., AE4.11gm Helmeted Head of Roma R. Prow of Galley R. Rome Mint Crawford 41/10, Sydenham 108
Ooooh, that's what it's supposed to look like! Anonymous Roman Republic, 217-215 BC AE Uncia, Rome mint Obverse: Helmeted head of Roma left, one pellet behind. Reverse: ROMA above prow right, one pellet below. References: Crawford 38/6 Size: 25mm, 14.53g Struck and circulated during period Hannibal was “at the gates of Rome”.
This was such a great thread I thought I'd keep it going. Just today got this Penny Dreadful that I think is an Uncia - but I am not sure. I have very little experience with RR AE stuff. It weighs 6.37 grams and is 20 mm. I'm not even sure I have the right denomination. I think I see a grain ear above the prow on the reverse, and a single dot. My initial guess is that it is Crawford 42/4a Anonymous AE uncia, 214-212 BC. Helmeted head of Roma right, o behind. / ROMA Prow right, grain ear above, o below. Sicilian mint. Punic War issue? I'm not sure. Any help greatly appreciated.
