Man I wish I had a metal detector, that looks like a lot of fun

Glad to have you here. You’ve been a positive influence in everyone here and your attitude and willingness to learn is so welcome. Please stick around. And if you’re ever up in Maine and want to detect you’re welcome to check around my house built ca 1785 and there’s plenty more around me I’m sure I could get you permission to detect

Congratulations on your one year with many more to follow.

I have a spike like the one that is in your third image. I found it in the road. Someone must have made a left turn and it flew out of their truck. I believe it is used in steel construction to line up the holes on two pieces of steel that will be bolted together.

Shrews, you are one of the rare ones who comes here and learns and grows and gives back to the community. Truly an asset to site.

Also, working for someone else is overrated. You sound like you have a great work ethic (which is very hard to come by these days), a good head about you, and skills. You should think about starting your own business.. maybe landscaping or a cleaning business (based on how you are already helping your family). Both do extremely well where I am.

Looking forward to the next year and beyond!

That spike in the image is a steel stake. They're used mostly in surveying and for supporting low concrete forms. Available at any big box lumber store in different lengths. Often have horizontal holes for attaching string or wire. The spikes used for aligning steel beams and columns are more tapered, usually have a wrench on the other end, and are called spud wrenches.

And yeah, Shrews, glad you're here and congrats on the anniversary! You're a big plus for the forum.
