This seller thinks this roll will be worth over 5K. http://cgi.ebay.com/1977-D-SEALED-G...ryZ31373QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
$ 5000 ? Let's see, I have a roll of coins that COULD be worth $5K. Let's bust a roll open and pile 'em up since I have more. Gotta love the logic in that. I Don't think it's a very good idea to take MS 65-67 coins and put them in a heap, but I have taken a $2 roll and done that from time to time. His pic shows me what he thinks of these rolls. JMO. There's no way that roll is worth $5000, in my opinion-- more than 4 billion of the darn things were minted. I certainly wouldn't pay that kind of money for them.
Is there a 1977-D penny that'w worth $5,000.00 (DDO/DDR)? I don't see one listed on the PCGS price guide. If there isn't one, this guy must have serious issues! Ribbit :smile Ps: The pic on the auction shows a busted roll of 1977-D pennies yet the auction claims the roll to be sealed. Just how many rolls does he have and why would he break open a $5,000.00 roll to show us there are 1977-D pennies in the roll(s), to lose the value of that one roll? I don't know about you, but $5,000.00 means something to me. I would have shown the end of the roll and left it intact so I'd have another roll to sell for $5,000.00.
I think the seller is suggesting that if each one were to sell for $125 each x 50, could equal over 5k. Unlikely. The roll he is selling is sealed. The seller mentions that they busted up one to show what you would be getting. I have the same thought as you, why bust open a $5k roll of pennies - reason: its not worth 5k. Suckers are born every day.... I know - I was once lost, but now I am found. Thank God for CT!
What's it cost to certify one of those pennies (cents) with PCGS? I just looked at their price guide and at MS-66 they are $125.00 but knowing how tough they are on grading, the likelihood is you might get MS-65 tops, if you're lucky, which is only $35.00 each and it almost costs that much for the grading services & shipping combined. So where's the profit? I think we both know where the profit is in this situation or the seller would have already sent them in for grading. What we have here is just another "sure" money making deal on Ebay (aka: get rich scheme). I just hope no one believes it. Ribbit
Lessee now... auction closes on April 8th. So if it was a seven day listing... I'm hoping this is just a bad April Fool's joke.
