Hi, I have attached photos from a 1885 CC Dollar on Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/223543635745?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 What would you say the grade is for this dollar? Thanks!
Agree with VG-08 because it is an 1885 CC. Any other coin in this condition, perhaps G-06. Personally all coins should be graded equally and on the same scale, but that's not how it works. Key dates and old silver (and old copper) are shown favoritism and a little more leniency in grading.
65% of the original mintage of 85cc's were held by the GSA until 1964. Therefore in theory it would be harder to find one in this condition than it would be in MS and the values reflect that. You can get an MS64 for roughly twice what you would pay for one in VG condition. Find another coin where this is true.
