1944’s a good year chock full of great designs. Plus, always love me some war nickels and their giant mint marks. I wish I had thought of posting more choices. I’ve got the 1950 proof set, PDS cents, plus a few 1950 and 50-D nickels. What the heck - you’ve inspired me. Proof first...
I feel the exact same way! I have purchased a prestige set for my birth year. Couldn’t help myself. At some point I’ll probably display it, when I stop moving around.
Yes, but more specifically, I was referring to the prestige proof set. Photo courtesy MA-Shops P.S. great photo work on your part!
A 1957-D Franklin that was in the International Coin Album I put together for my Boy Scout Coin Collecting Merit Badge. The US page was made up of all the 1957 denominations.
Actually 2 coins. In 1941 the proof half dollars came out in 2 varieties: with and without the designer's initials. As I understand it the Mint polished off (unintentionally) the initials on some of the proof dies. I'll have to see if I can come up with some pictures.
I noticed that most of you have only U.S. coins in your birth year sets. If any of you would like to add some Hungarian coins to your collection please let me know. Just message me with the date(s) plus an address and I will, free of charge, send you some coins. There won't be anything rare, just normal for circulation coins. Postage is free as well. If you have a YN working on a project let me know. These won't be complete sets, just what I have collected over the years. Most will be BU, no beaters. I hope to hear from many of you soon.
It just came to me that those two, P and D, were among the four lowest mintages of their decade, while the P mintage of my own, just three years earlier, was one of the two highest.
There's also the Native American female scientist/mathematician on one of the latest Sacajawea dollars—although not a "standard issue."
Your birth year encompassed two years, at least for the quarter, half, and dollar. What is a Washington cent?
