Can anyone tell and point out to me why this coin is a fake.

Show me what I'm missing. That makes this 1895 o Morgan dollar such a fake. I am a noob but don't want to keep making mistakes like this buying or trying to sell counterfeits. Thanks

Hi - Who told you it is fake & what did they say exactly? The Excellent condition strikes me as unlikely - it looks like it was made yesterday - have you weighed it?

The dark dirty spots on the coin seem a bit too perfect. Its like stained wood, as the stain pools adjacent to all the devices of the coin.

 

Some on another coin forum. And they was quick to say fake but usually you get a reason why but they offered nothing ( to good to be true) so fake. And yes I did weigh it 26.7g and it isn't attracted to magnet. Ive looked and looked at comparisons online for fake to real coins. Looks good for me lol

 

Perfect coin with Perfect weight....I can't say definitely fake - but I'm leaning with the "too good to be true" thing. I bet there are other tests for silver content.

 

It just has that slightly cartoonish look which makes me think "fake". Of course, there are many fakes that look even better that this one. A real, mint struck Morgan has a certain regal look about it that is not easy to reproduce. I am not an expert by any means, mostly fly by the seat of my pants. I usually go with my gut feeling.

 

Is this a Family Heirloom?

My grandpa left it for me when he passed apparently grandma was holding ever since, know she not doing great. So it and a few other coins was given to me. And this 1895 Morgan stood out the most. Thanks for your input.

Patina seems wrong. Doesn't look like silver at all. Details are not crisp.
Lack of luster as pointed out before. It does not have the look of a real Morgan at all. The 1895-O only has a mintage of 450,000, I doubt it's a real one.

Let me preface this observation with an absolute, undeniable, indisputable fact. I am not an expert. Ok, with that out of the way here's my observation.

Morgan dollars seem to have a propensity for bag marks. Your Morgan has plenty of wear but it is lacking honest bag marks. This gives me cause for concern.

 

Reeding looks good.

 

It does have a pewter-y look rather than a silver look. Does it pass the ping test?
