Hi I have recently found this coin while metal detecting, it is very small and I have been informed it's a hammered penny, if anyone could tell me which monarch it is or how old it is, it would be very greatly appreciated Regards
That coin is a bit of a mystery. Without better images it will be hard to make any conclusive attribution. That said, there are enough clues to narrow it down. The visible letters and quatrefoil on the reverse indicate that it is from a Lancaster/York king. The obverse looks to have some letters visible, but a better photo is needed to read them. What I find interesting about the coin is the way the reverse cross is visible inside the quatrefoil. That is not a common feature, and speaks to rushed or poor die engraving. It makes me think of Edward IV Irish pennies like below. Or the pennies of Henry VI during his restoration in 1470-71 such as this one from York. Ultimately, a better photo of the obverse that will allow for the legend to be read will really help in identifying this penny.
Personally I believe that it is from the restoration period of Henry the 6th 1470-1471 as the long cross on the back of the coin had more obvious arrows on each end where as on the Edward the 4th coins they are less obvious
